A Great Place to Stay and Play

UVA is located in Central Virginia—just two and a half hours south of Washington, DC—in Charlottesville, offering both the intimate charm of a small town and the vibrant, creative culture of a booming city. Near to UVA’s historic Grounds are the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountain hiking trails and the popular local music, theater, art, and culinary scenes. Meet up with friends at one of the town’s many inviting coffee shops, or take in a show by a nationally touring act with 14,000 other fans at John Paul Jones Arena.

What’s more, being close to Washington, D.C., means you can always plan an exciting weekend getaway. And if you're looking to go farther afield, Charlottesville Albemarle Airport (CHO) offers direct flights to New York, Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, and Washington, DC.

The Global Ambassador Program

Each semester, McIntire students volunteer to serve as an ambassador to inbound exchange students, helping them get acquainted with McIntire, UVA, and the Charlottesville community. Student-led events are coordinated each semester, including a First Day of Class Breakfast, a visit to Monticello, and a visit to a nearby apple orchard for a “Sunset Series.”

What Exchange Students Say

I had a great time at UVA; everyone was so welcoming, student life is so fun, and the courses offered are very interesting. There are so many fun activities to do around campus/town that allow you to meet new people. I feel like being a college town, Charlottesville welcomes exchange students so well.
