John Harbert (A&S ’11)

Senior Vice President – Strategy, Harbert Management Corporation

John Harbert is the Senior Vice President of Strategy at Harbert Management Corporation, an alternative assets firm with approximately $8.2B in AUM. He focuses on firm-wide strategic initiatives, including data management, technology strategy, corporate responsibility, business development and capital formation. He previously served as Director of Investments for the U.S. Real Estate team in the Birmingham office, where he focused on the areas of acquisitions, financings, and dispositions for the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic U.S. regions. Prior to joining the U.S. Real Estate team, Harbert served as a Director with the HMC Marketing team, raising capital for all HMC strategies from a variety of investors ranging from high-net-worth individuals to large institutional clients. He served in that role in the New York, London, and Birmingham offices.

Harbert holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and Economics from the University of Virginia and a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Alternative Investments from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School. He holds his FINRA Series 7 and 63 licenses and is a member of the Urban Land Institute. He additionally serves on the Board of Directors and the Investment Committee of Harbert Realty Services, an HMC subsidiary, and the Advisory Roundtable for Auburn University’s Winchester Institute.

Harbert is involved in his community and serves on the Board of Governors for Birmingham Legion FC, the Board of Directors at Red Mountain Theatre Company, and the Board of Directors at the McWane Science Center, and is an active member of the Monday Morning Quarterback Club.
