Mike Morris Named Associate Dean
for Graduate Programs

May 11, 2006—Professor and Information Technology Area Coordinator Mike Morris has been named Associate Dean for Graduate Programs, effective immediately.

Morris is active in both the undergraduate program and the M.S. in the Management of Information Technology Program at the McIntire School. He has published articles on socio-cognitive aspects of information systems development, implementation, and usage in many top academic and professional journals, including MIS Quarterly and Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes. Morris also serves on the editorial boards of MIS Quarterly and Information Systems Research and has ongoing research projects with colleagues at other major universities examining user acceptance, system usability, and the organizational impacts associated with new technology introductions. Before joining the McIntire School in 2001, he served on the faculty at the Air Force Institute of Technology and as a visiting professor at the Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration in both Helsinki and Mikkeli, Finland.

“Mike is an exceptional teacher, scholar, and leader for the IT Area, and he is already a key faculty member in the M.S. in MIT Program,” says McIntire Dean Carl Zeithaml. “He works very well with both the teaching faculty and the professional staff and is highly regarded by students and alumni. Mike also is very involved with our planning for innovations in the M.S. in MIT Program and is anxious to develop new graduate program offerings. He brings the experience, maturity, and appropriate perspective to Graduate Programs, and I am confident he will do an outstanding job.”

Appointing a full-time associate dean is critical, Zeithaml adds, because McIntire’s Graduate Programs are an essential part of the School’s academic portfolio, extend the School’s reputation and impact, build the School’s intellectual capital, and provide critical resources that allow growth in a variety of ways.

“I sincerely appreciate the faculty and staff’s hard work as we took the necessary time to make this appointment,” Zeithaml says. “I am pleased that our School leadership team is complete, and I am also very gratified that many of the senior roles are now filled with the ‘next generation’ of McIntire School leaders.”
