BusinessWeek Ranks McIntire
among Top Undergraduate Programs
April 28, 2006—In its inaugural ranking of undergraduate business
programs, BusinessWeek magazine placed the McIntire School of
Commerce at the University of Virginia second in the nation. Other top
programs included Wharton (1), Notre Dame (3), MIT (4), and Emory (5).
The next highest ranked public university programs were Michigan (6) and
Texas (9).
To rank the programs, BusinessWeek surveyed students and
recruiters, developed an academic quality score, and calculated letter
grades on teaching quality, facilities and services, and job placement.
McIntire received an A+ on all three of the graded dimensions. The
magazine noted that the “[w]orkload is intense, but students love the
real-world core curriculum.”
“We are an extraordinary community dedicated to the best for our
students and each other,” said Dean Carl Zeithaml. “The Commerce
School’s faculty and staff have worked with great skill and enthusiasm
for our students for decades. It is gratifying to receive external
confirmation of these efforts from such a highly regarded source. As we
look ahead, however, our goals remain unchanged—to pursue excellence, to
innovate, to create new knowledge, and, most importantly, to provide a
world-class educational experience for our students.”
Currently, 660 full-time students are enrolled in McIntire’s program,
which accepts students at the beginning of their third year of
undergraduate study. In addition to an outstanding academic record,
McIntire students are leaders and contribute to the University community
in many ways. The School routinely places over 90 percent of its
graduates in top jobs throughout the country. The McIntire School also
offers graduate programs in accounting and the management of information
technology.
