Module 1: IT Architecture (Two-Week Residency)
GCOM 7790 & 7800 (9 credit hours)
Module 1 brings students in both sections of the program together for a two-week residency on the Grounds of the University of Virginia. This brief but intense technology experience will expose you to McIntire’s way of looking at information technology, which is based on the philosophy of designing IT systems that meet the needs of the business enterprise and add economic value.
The module has three objectives: (1) to provide you with a long-lasting knowledge of the foundations of modern information systems—IT architecture, databases, business processes, and telecommunications; (2) to strengthen your insights on contemporary IT trends and emerging technologies (e.g., Web 2.0, business components); and (3) to empower you with a big-picture understanding of how these pieces fit together in an overall enterprise architecture.
