Minimum Qualifications

The M.S. in Commerce Program is designed for candidates who have graduated or who will be graduating within 12 months of matriculation with a strong liberal arts, science, or engineering undergraduate degree. Students who have an undergraduate degree in business are not eligible to apply.

Prerequisite Coursework

Applicants to the M.S. in Commerce Class of 2011 must complete or plan to complete the following prerequisite U.Va. coursework or equivalents from other institutions before formal admission to the program:

  • COMM 1800: Making Business Work (Introduction to Business)*
  • ECON 2010: Principles of Economics: Microeconomics
  • COMM 2010: Introduction to Financial Accounting

Prerequisite coursework for applicants to the Class of 2012 or beyond are ECON 2010, COMM 2010, and Introduction to Statistics. (U.Va. statistics courses that would qualify to serve as a prerequisite are: STAT 1100, STAT 1120, STAT 2120, ECON 3710, MATH 3120, APMA 3120, and APMA 3110.)

 

*A combination of courses may serve as the Introduction to Business prerequisite, with formal approval by the M.S. in Commerce Program Director. To inquire, please contact Emma Candelier in the Graduate Programs Office.
