Accounting Mission Statement
The mission of the Accounting Area is to create and disseminate knowledge of the accounting discipline within the mission of the McIntire School of Commerce. In the context of the Accounting Area this means:
- Expanding and creating knowledge through scholarship of theoretical and practical impact
- Communicating knowledge of the accounting discipline through teaching undergraduate and graduate students and interacting with the external business and policy-making communities
- Encouraging ethical practice of accounting
- Serving the business, financial, governmental, and professional communities
- Providing a global perspective of accounting in society that explores diverse viewpoints
- Providing an accounting educational foundation for students interested in professional certification
