Phillip S. Schaeffer Phillip Schaeffer has been
active in the U.S. distressed credits market for over 17 years. From
1991 through March 1999, he managed proprietary and client funds in
distressed credits in New York at Robert Fleming Inc., the London-based
merchant banking firm. By 1998, funds under his management exceeded $150
million. Fleming's helped Mr. Schaeffer go independent in April 1999,
and he formed Scott's Cove Capital Management LLC. Scott’s Cove manages
a domestic fund, Scott’s Cove Special Credits Fund I, L.P., and an
offshore fund, Scott’s Cove Special Credits Offshore Fund I Limited.
Prior to joining Fleming's, Mr. Schaeffer co-founded Amroc Investments,
which invested in distressed securities. He was Co-Director of the
Bankruptcy Department at Cowen & Co., a New York-based investment firm,
and was a Senior Analyst at R.D. Smith & Co., a New York brokerage firm
specializing in distressed credits.
From 1981 to 1986, Mr. Schaeffer was with The Taubman Company in
Bloomfield Hills, Mich. He was initially Assistant to the Chairman, A.
Alfred Taubman, and later, Vice President of Taubman Investment Company,
where he was involved in acquisition analysis. After the acquisition of
A & W Restaurants Inc., which was an operational turnaround opportunity,
he became its CFO.
Mr. Schaeffer is a graduate of the Harvard Business School (M.B.A. 1981)
and the University of Virginia (B.S. 1977). He is a certified public
accountant and was a Senior Tax Consultant in the Tax Department of
Arthur Andersen & Co., in Washington, D.C., prior to attending Harvard.
